-   History   -

In 1988, a group of kiwanians from Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur came out with the idea of helping children with Down Syndrome. This is because during that time, there had no organization  helping children with down syndrome. An unofficial centre for the children was located at 59, Jalan Gasing in September 1989. It started with 35 down syndrome's children, the centre was subsequently declared open by Datuk Dr. Siti Hasmah, wife of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed.

In 1990, Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation (KDSF) was formed. This foundation was created to ensure that what was set up before, would be properly managed. The meaning of Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation is  a non-profit organization with tax-exempt status. It relies totally on donations to fund its various activities.. It is committed to the welfare of children with Down Syndrome. The foundation’s main focus is emphasizing the education of children that below 6 years old.
